Shuttle SH87R6 Build

September 14, 2013

We just completed our first SH87R6 build for a customer.

Shuttle has changed up the SATA cables, sending shorter cables.  There are no more cables wrapped on the top rail.  I actually like it better with the shorter cables, no problems reaching the devices.

Here are the specs we used for this build:

Intel Core i7-4770 processor
Crucial Ballistic Sport low-profile DDR3 1600 16 GB memory  (2x8GB)
MSI R7790-1GD5/OC Radeon HD Graphics card
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SATA III SSD (boot drive)
Seagate Barracuda 2 TB SATA III 7200 64MB cache HDD (storage drive)
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

The only minor problem we had was the Graphics card plug, the hard drive rack sits on top of the plug.  Had to remove the tie wrap on the end by the plug to push the wires down enough for the rack to fit properly.  Next time, will recommend a graphics card a little shorter in height.  The MSI HD 7790 was 125mm in height.
Otherwise, it was an easy build, good air flow and very fast.

Recommended graphics card dimensions:  L-10.74″ (273) x H-3.85″ (98) x D-1.65″ (42) updated on Shuttle’s website.
