Hackintosh on the SH55J2 successes!!

December 20, 2010

It seems the Hackintosh community has been able to successfully install Snow Leopard on the Shuttle SH55J2 model. The only problems they had was the network and audio drivers, which they found a solution to.
They say, it even boots without iBoot once Multibeast has been installed.

We’re going the check this out and I’ll post our results. I’ll also post the links to the network and audio drivers.

Stay tuned.

Shuttle ‘J’ & ‘H’ Series PC63J 500W Power Supply

October 23, 2010

You can upgrade the standard power supply in the SG41J1 (250w), SH55J2 (300w) and the SH67H3 (300W) models to the 500 watt PC63J PSU.
This gives the option of putting higher end graphics cards in these models without worry of power shortage.

You can use the Shuttle PSU Calculator to determine if a 500W PSU is needed.

You can purchase the PC63J PSU for $99.99 at Cinlor Tech’s PC Shop.

Shuttle SH55J2 and SX58J3

October 19, 2010

Now that the Shuttle “J” series has been out for awhile, I’d like to clear up some confusion regarding the SH55J2 and SX58J3 models.

Question: Can you put a 6-core processor in the SH55J2?
Answer: A 6-core processor will not work in that model, only the SX58J3 model.
The i7 Extreme 6-core has to run on a pc with the X58 chipset.

Now with that being said, as I said in an earlier post, the new Shuttle “J” series models now have the ability to change the motherboard to any Brand or Model of M-ITX you’d like. So technically, you could put an X58 motherboard in a SH55J2 model case but, you would want to also upgrade the power supply to accommodate the additional power requirements. The i7 970 (6-core) has a max TDP of 130 watts.
The stock motherboard in the SH55J2 uses the H55 chipset with a max TDP of 95 watts.

In this builders opinion, having the ability to use any M-ITX motherboard, is one of the best changes Shuttle has made.

If I can answer any other questions you might have regarding the Shuttle “J” series models, please post them here in the comments section.
